Introductions: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Sarah

#1 - I Have a Clone....I Think?

This explains the person that looks just like me (but stronger) on your Instagram explore page. Two minutes younger and two inches shorter, my twin sister Sam is my best friend. But, we don't completely know if we are identical or fraternal. We are what is known as dichorionic diamniotic (DCDA) twins. DCDA twins are most common in fraternal twins but, can also occur with identical. Soooo... we're either fraternal twins with almost identical DNA or identical twins with a copy error. Sam and I have been a little too extra since birth.

#2 - There is an Insane Calling to Be Where I'm Not.

Much like a gypsy traveler I am not very talented at staying in one place for very long. During my 22 years of life, I have moved 12 times and attended 9 different schools (hopefully not too many more of those). Lately, I have managed to stay still in St. John's, Newfoundland but, I can feel some movement coming my way soon. Travelling will have to do until I can live where the sun kisses my skin year round (if such a place exists outside of my dreams).

#3 - Matisse is My Muse

I have always loved to create (Brenda can vouch for me on that one). I was in grade 3 when my first piece was publicly displayed; it was at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery. One of my favourite gifts from my childhood was an art easel that my parents gave to me for Christmas while living in Lewisporte, NL. I spent hours in front of that thing. My love for art lead to a passion for beauty and I eventually opened my own business as a makeup artist.

"There are always flowers for those who want to see them" Matisse

#4 - My Sweet Tooth is Out of Control

If there's sugar in it, I'll probably eat it, to be honest. I am specifically a big fan of marshmallow, taffy, and cinnamon rolls. I will never say no to Cinnabon. Ever. However, as long as its dairy free (#lactoseintolerantproblems) I'm probably gonna eat it. I am forever thankful to my two lovers, Ben & Jerry, for creating dairy-free ice cream flavours. Bless their hearts. <3

#5 - Disney Nerd 4L

I am extremely glad Netflix does not have a counter for how many times you've watched a film; my number for the live-action Cinderella and Moana would be embarrassingly high. I was raised on Disney VHS tapes (You're too young for me if you don't know what a VHS is) and family channel movies; if I was gifted with the voice of even a sub-par angel I would be living out the rest of my dream life as a Disney princess. If you can't quote Disney movies, you can't sit with me. (Emmalee Lethbridge of Spoonful of Sugar NL probably agrees).

Favourite Disney Princesses:

  1. Cinderella

  2. Aurora (I associate with anyone who's claim to fame was taking a nap)

  3. Belle

#6 - Bryan Adams was my 1st Concert. I was 11.

Well, almost 11. The concert occurred just 3 days prior to my twin sister's and my birthday. I'm not going to lie to you guys, I was not happy about going to this concert. As a twin, you have to share your birthday and that sometimes that means sharing gifts as well. 10 year old Sam was slightly obsessed with horses and the horse movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, in which Bryan Adams was the main contributor to the film's soundtrack. So for our 11th birthday, Sam wanted to go see Bryan Adams in concert (she was a little bummed he didn't perform any of the film's tracks). I only agreed to go because I was promised a concert of my choice for our next birthday. That being said, Bryan Adams put on an amazing show and I am ecstatic he was my first concert. Maybe he'll be my next concert as well if I can land some tickets for his performance at the Mile One Centre in July.

Note: Almost 12 years later and I still haven't received concert tickets for my birthday.

#7 - I (Probably) Played Against Justin Bieber's Team in Co-Ed Soccer

While living in Clinton, Ontario I played on the local team within the Huron County Youth Soccer Club. Teams would regularly play against the other towns of Huron County. During the same time frame when I participated, Justin Bieber also played for his local team in Stratford, Ontario. There might have been picture proof if Instagram was a thing in the early 2000's. I'm not one to brag but I remember Clinton beating Stratford on the regular. Maybe Justin will want a rematch? One-on-one maybe? ;)

#8 - I Have a Tattoo.

As soon as I moved out of my parent's house I completely rebelled; I wanted to figure out who I was without parental influence. I ended my 4-year relationship, I started rock climbing, I changed my taste in music and clothes, I started hanging out at bars and I got a tattoo. If you call a tiny daisy tattoo behind your ear rebellious, anyways. I got my favourite flower because it was pretty. That's it. No sob story or intrinsic reasoning. Mike from Trouble Bound Studio designed and tattooed my daisy. 10/10 would recommend him btw.

#9 - Shoes are my Guilty Pleasure

"Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world." Marilyn Monroe

I love shoes almost as much as Kelly does. Cliche for a girl to love but idgaf. Whether its a fresh pair of Mizuno's for volleyball season or a cute pair of Sam Edelman Espadrilles in the summer, shoes make me happy. The perfect shoes can carry you to your next great adventure. Future wedding shoe: Christian Louboutin Pigalle in Ivory or the Pigalle Follies in Ivory Glitter (Either way I'll own both).

#10 I wish my degree thingy was Ba.R instead of B.Rec

All of my life I have been in a some sort of club or on a sports team. God bless my parents for dealing with me.

Soccer. Basketball. Drama club.

Dance Cross country (Cardio is hard-io) Yearbook

Volleyball. Skipping club (that was rough). Art Club

Track & Field. Cheerleading (very brief).

THANKFULLY not all of those extracurriculars stuck. It took me way too many years and a lot of lies from my loving parents to realize that I am about as graceful as a penguin (and not the cute, dancing Happy Feet kind). But, volleyball definitely stayed. For the past 12 years of my life volleyball has been my number one sport and being a twin I was granted a permanent pepper partner. My love for the sport (as well as others) lead me to complete a degree in Recreation at Memorial University here in Newfoundland. During my time at MUN, I discovered I also love yoga, slack-lining, snowboarding, pole fitness classes and wine (my degree did teach me that drinking is technically recreation, too)! I think I might try the adult gymnastics classes at Cygnus Gymnastics next. Does anyone want to join me?

#11 - BONUS - I'm still figuring Sh*t out

Like many millennials fresh out of university, I have no idea what I want to do with my life. I have many different future goals but I'm still trying to figure out how to actually get there. Until I do, you guys are welcome to travel with me on all of my detours. Here's to figuring sh*t out! xoxo <3
